On 06 October 2018, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Association of Career Executives (DENR ACE), Career Executive Service Board (CESB), National Union of Career Executive Service Officers, Inc. (NUCESO), Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and other local government units in Bulacan will join forces to plant 1,000 indigenous forest species at the Ipo Watershed, Norzagaray, Bulacan.
This Tree Growing Activity aims to contribute to the enrichment of the Ipo Watershed, which covers 6,600 hectares rainforest and provides 98% of Metro Manila’s water supply, servicing over 12 million people. According to the DENR, 70% of this land has been stripped bare of forest due to illegal logging, kaingin and charcoal production.
To ensure the growth and survival of the seedlings, the DENR, through Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO)-Bulacan, will conduct regular maintenance activities in the Ipo Watershed area.
